PUP Lab High School awards outstanding alumni

MANILA, Philippines - The Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Laboratory  High  School  (PUP  LHS) acknowledged some of their outstanding  alumni through the first "GawadHiyas: Professional Achievement Awards."

PUP President Dr. Emmanuel De Guzman recognized the awardees for their achievements and contributions for the country.

The GawadHiyas awardees the following:

  * Former  Secretary  of  the Department of Social Welfare and Development Celia Yangco - for public service

  * TV and movie director Lamberto "Bert" De Leon - for mass media

  * Former Philippine Veterans Bank president Joey A. Bermudez - for banking and finance

  * Former Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) chair Antonieta Fortuna-Ibe - for institutionalizing reforms in the PRC

  * Women's  rights  activist  and  UNESCO  Chair  Jo  Enrica Eniquez-Rosales - for her fight for the rights of abused women and children

  * Sr. Eusebia D.R. Talastas, RSCJ - for her unwavering passion in teaching and mentoring the youth

  * US-based pharmaceutical company Magno-Humphries Laboratories, Inc. founder Thelma Magno-Humphries - for making a niche in the pharmaceutical industry

  * UPLB professor and agriculturist at the PCARRD-DOST, Dr. Perlita Nuevo - for the field of agriculture

  * Former  president of the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association of the Philippines, Noel Gonzales - for business and real estate

  * Rotarian  and  philanthropist  Reynaldo  Garcia  -  for his contribution in socio-civic works projects for the less fortunate and scholarship program for the PUP LHS

  * Philippine College of Commerce High School Class of 1963 - Alumni Group Award

The GawadHiyas selection of awardees was based on the outstanding professional and personal successes of the nominees, as well as their involvement in socio-civic, ecological, cultural, or charitable activities, according to a statement from PUP.
