Vet specialist to speak at 2nd APVS

Dr. Steven Krakowka, distinguished Animal Science professor, will be one of the guest speakers at the "2nd Asian Veterinary Society (APVS) Congress 2005" on Sept. 19 to 21 at the Edsa Shangri-La Manila.

He, along with Dr. Catherine Charreyre of Merial Ltd., will discuss the Circovirus (PCV 2) and its role in Post-weaning Multi-systemic Wasting (PMWS). Participants will have the latest information on diagnostics, pathology and immunology of Circovirus and discover the agents responsible on up-regulating PCV 2 from infection to outbreak. Field-tested management techniques to handle PMWS will also be tackled to help veterinians and technical persons alike.

The Philippine College of Swine Practitioners (PCSP), the organization that produced the highly-successful "Pinoy Pork Challenge" series, and the Asian Pig Veterinary Society (APVS) is organizing the summit.

Headed by Dr. Zoilo M. Lapus, the APVS 2005 will focus on "Efficient Pig Production in Borderless Asia."
