Quezon City probes electrocution incident

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government is investigating an electrocution incident, which caused the death of three siblings in Barangay Pinyahan last week.
The city’s Department of Building Official and the Quezon City Police District are conducting the probe to determine whether negligence contributed to the incident.
“The local government assures the public that anyone found responsible for the tragedy will face charges and will be held accountable,” city hall said in a statement yesterday.
It cited the Local Building Code, which mandates owners to ensure the safety of apartment occupants by securing necessary permits such as locational clearance, fire safety inspection certificate and electrical permit.
The city government urged owners of apartments and rental rooms to act responsibly “by ensuring that their establishments comply with all requirements to help prevent similar incidents.”
The city government provided support to the family of the victims, including funeral expenses and educational assistance to their younger sibling.
Fire victims to be relocated
Meanwhile, the local government said it would distribute aid to 38 families affected by the fire that broke out beneath the bridge along Congressional Avenue in Barangay Bahay Toro on Saturday.
The victims will be relocated to safe and permanent housing within the city.
“The bridge will remain closed to traffic to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians,” the city government said. “The bridge has been declared unsafe for all types of vehicles after parts of the structure were damaged by the fire.”
The city’s Engineering Department is coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways for the bridge’s repair.
