MAP names Carlos Chan Management Man of the Year

MANILA, Philippines — The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) yesterday named Liwayway Group chair Carlos Chan as the recipient of this year’s Management Man of the Year award.

MAP confers the award to individuals from the business community or government for their practice of management and valuable contributions to the progress of the country.

Recipients of the award are those with achievements and distinction as leaders and managers of organizations, and serve as exemplary models for their peers, as well as younger leaders and managers.

In selecting the awardee, the MAP said in a statement, it follows a stringent selection process.

MAP’s criteria for the award include integrity, leadership and management qualities; contribution to nation-building and values formation; and effective stewardship within the confines of the highest standards of business and management practice.

MAP said Chan was chosen for his business acumen and management qualities in transforming a local cornstarch repacking business into an international snack manufacturing company.

In addition, MAP said Chan has shown patriotism and helped enhance the country’s image by carrying the Philippine flag in its operations overseas.

MAP also said Chan as head of the Liwayway Group has made contributions to national development through technology improvements, product development, skills training, job creation and income generation.

He has likewise helped shape national values and inspired others through his achievements attained through hard work, perseverance and discipline.

Moreover, Chan has set an example for Filipino managers for his track record of integrity, entrepreneurial excellence, managerial competence and professional leadership in his management career in both private and public sectors.

The Management Man of the Year award has been conferred 45 times in its five-decade history.
