Cavitex sees 7% buildup in traffic volume this year

MANILA, Philippines — Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) expects a six to seven percent increase in traffic volume on the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) this year as it completes the expansion works.

“We’re increasing traffic growth from six to seven percent, “ CIC president Luigi Bautista told reporters.

He said the  CAVITEX  currently has about 135,000 motorists daily.

CIC is undertaking the expansion of the CAVITEX and its completion is expected to result in a 15 to 20 percent increase in capacity of the expressway.

Bautista earlier said the CIC is spending P700 million for expansion and improvements.

CIC is expanding the CAVITEX by adding one lane on each direction of the tollway.

It is also building a flyover along the expressway so motorists from the South heading to Pacific Drive will no longer have to stop at the traffic light.

In addition, improvements are being undertaken on the road surface of Pacific Drive or from R-1 to Macapagal.

“That should be completed by the third quarter,” Bautista said.

CIC is part of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC).

Aside from CAVITEX, MPIC also operates the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway.

It is likewise working on other tollway projects. These are the NLEX-South Luzon Expressway Connector Road, NLEX-Harbor Link Segment 10, Cavite-Laguna Expressway, C-5 South Link, and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
