Poro Point Baywalk to open

MANILA, Philippines - Bases Conversion and Development Authority subsidiary Poro Point Management Corp. (PPMC) is set to inaugurate next week its P57.45 million Poro Point Baywalk project.

The Poro Point Baywalk features playgrounds, picnic area, gazebos, an amphitheater and a commercial strip.

“The commercial strip will be leased out to interested investors and small and medium enterprises. This will promote the participation of local businessmen in the development of the Poro Point Freeport Zone,” PPMC chairman Ives Nisce said.

PPMC said the 1.3-kilometer baywalk fronting San Fernando Bay would be opened during this year’s celebration of the Sillag Poro Point Festival of Lights on April 9.

“This infrastructure project was launched during the Sillag Festival in 2015 which drew thousands of participants, thus, highlighting the project’s viability. It is foreseen to draw more tourists to the area and enhance the competitiveness of the zone,” Nisce said.

PPMC said the Sillag Festival is La Union’s counterpart to Baguio City’s Panagbenga and Clark’s International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

The annual Sillag Festival was initiated by PPMC together with the BCDA and the provincial government of La Union in 2012.
