MANILA, Philippines - Manila Water Co. Inc. was awarded a project that seeks to reduce water spillage in Zamboanga City.
In a disclosure to the local bourse, Manila Water said the project will be implemented via a joint venture with the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD).
The non-revenue water reduction program will last for 10 years.
“Manila Water and ZCWD shall execute a joint venture agreement to govern their relationship as joint venture partners. Thereafter, a service agreement shall be executed by and between the joint venture company and ZCWD,” the Ayala-led utility firm said.
In June 2010, Manila Water and ZCWD signed a memorandum of understanding for the development, implementation, financing and operation of the non-revenue water reduction program that will cover the entire area of Zamboanga City comprising 98 villages.
Manila Water, which supplies water to half of the country’s most populous city, is building a water treatment facility with 100 million liters a day capacity. Slated for completion by 2016, the sewage treatment plant will provide services to about 650,000 residents of Pasig and nearby cities.
The company derives most of its income from its Metro Manila east zone concession area that covers parts of Quezon City and Makati, the southeastern parts of Manila, Taguig, Pateros, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong and Rizal province.
