Toyota sales rev up 50% in January

MANILA, Philippines - Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC) saw its sales increase 50 percent in January compared to a year ago due to strong demand for the Vios, Innova and Fortuner models.

The company said in a statement that it sold 7,062 units in January, up from sales of 4,716 units in the same month in 2012.

The higher sales were seen due to the continuous high demand for locally-assembled models, the Vios and Innova.

TMPC noted that the Vios remains as the best-seller in the passenger car segment.

Also supporting the latest sales performance was the Fortuner which had its highest sales since its introduction with 1,623 units sold in a single month.

“Coming from an encouraging performance last month, we are optimistic that demand will continue to be favorable because of positive economic outlook and new model introductions,” TMPC president Michinobu Sugata said.

Following the successful launch of the Altis in January, the company is set to introduce two new models this month which are expected to further boost sales.

The new Innova will be unveiled Monday.

Earlier, Sugata said TMPC plans to rollout a total of four new vehicle models this year to achieve higher sales.

The company aims to sell 90,000 units this year.

Last year, TMPC’s total sales hit an all-time high of 75,587 units.

Other Toyota vehicle models sold in the Philippines are the Camry, Yaris, Land Cruiser 200, Prado, RAV4, FJ Cruiser, Avanza, Alphard, Previa, Hiace, Hilux, Prius and Prius C.
