Tropical Storm 'Nina' to bring rain on Christmas Day

MANILA, Philippines — It might be a wet Christmas for parts of the Philippines as Severe Tropical Storm "Nina" is expected to bring rains on Christmas Day.
 
As of 4 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "Nina"(Nock-ten) was located 960 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its weather bulletin on Friday morning.
 
The tropical storm is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rainfall within its 350-km diameter.
 
On December 25, Christmas Day, the storm is expected to be 270 km east of Virac, Catanduanes.
 
Nina continues to move west northwest at 25 kph and has maximum sustained winds of up to 95 kph near the center. It has gustiness of 120 kph, PAGASA said.
 
The weather bureau also said cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao Region on Friday. The Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley regions will, meanwhile, experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
 
Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
