MANILA, Philippines – The R&A of St. Andrews recently tied up with three local corporate bigwigs to fund several developmental projects for amateur golf starting next year.
The R&A, through its golf development committee chair Keith Hodgkinson, and Martin Lorenzo, JP Reyes and Abe Rosal sealed the tie-up with the NGAP’s chairman of youth development and national training pool committee head Tommy Manotoc.
Manotoc’s department was given the mandate by National Golf Association of the Philippines president Leandro Mendoza to run the golf body’s amateur events, including the Philippine Amateurs set April 12-15 next year at the Riviera in Silang, Cavite.
The Phl Amateur is also expected to lure the top amateurs in the region.
Also on tap is the revival of the National Junior Amateur Championship, the Mindanao and Visayas Regional and the continuation of the caddies program.
Lorenzo and Reyes, through their companies, have also promised to help send the finest junior talents to several events abroad.
