Blazers outgun Chiefs in shootout, top NC football

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — St. Benilde outlasted Arellano U in the penalty shootout for the second straight time and pulled off a 3-2 win to end an eight-year title drought in the 93rd NCAA football tournament at the Rizal Memorial pitch.

Goalie Jake Vicen made a spectacular save on a Roberto Corsame Jr. attempt in the shootout to help power the Blazers to a 2-1 title series triumph and their first seniors crown in eight seasons and fourth overall.

It was also the second title for St. Benilde coach Marlon Maro, who credited his wards for the victory.

“The players deserve this championship,” said Maro.

Miguel Alfonso Artillera shoved St. Benilde to the lead after blasting in a 38th-minute goal but Corsame, a national Under-23 standout, countered just three minutes into the second half.
