MANILA, Philippines — He may not be with his brothers-in-arms, but Christian Standhardinger made it clear on Sunday night that he rallying behind his teammates.

“I will catch them,” he said matter-of-factly, shortly after Hong Kong Eastern Sports Club defeated Tanduay-Alab Pilipinas in the two team’s ABL season-opener at the MOA Arena. “I’m gonna be there eating some popcorn and enjoying the game.”

Standhardinger, who will be missing the first window of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers, will be taking the backseat to naturalized big man Andray Blatche. On top of that, the Filipino-German has an ongoing commitment with Hong Kong Eastern which runs until April 2018.

“We need a victory,” the 28-year-old Standhardinger shared. “To coach Chot, good luck to you! Good luck to the home team!”

“I’m excited to watch the game via TV or the internet,” he offered. “Let’s go guys!”

Gilas takes on Japan in Tokyo this Friday for their first assignment in the first window. They head back to the capital on the weekend for a clash with Chinese-Taipei on Monday night at the Big Dome.
