No Manny? Horn wants Spence

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Jeff Horn, who shocked the world by beating Manny Pacquiao last July, is trying to make sure he doesn’t sit out the rest of the year.

On social media, the new WBO welterweight champion called out IBF champion Errol Spence of Long Island, New York.

‘Let’s fight, let’s unify, there will be a man down,” the 29-year-old Horn said in daring Spence, two years younger, to a unification fight at 147 pounds.

But Horn would rather meet Pacquiao in a rematch, where under the previous contract he would be entitled to a purse of $2 million.

The former schoolteacher and now a hero in Australia will not make half of that facing someone like Spence.

The Filipino senator, now with 59-7-2 ring record, has hinted days after his loss to Horn that he wants a rematch.

But that’s the last time he ever spoke of the fight, which ended with a controversial unanimous decision that was later on upheld by the WBO.

“Nothing definite,” a member of the Team Pacquiao told The STAR the other day.

Pacquiao may be taking his time before he sits down and starts negotiating for a rematch or that he’s not interested at all.

“Three weeks,” Arum said in a text message the other day, referring to a deadline for Pacquiao to make his decision.

Horn, meanwhile, is looking at his next fight – whoever the opponent may be.
