Lascañas confession: For truth, or for money?

HOTSPOT - Mocha Uson - The Philippine Star

“If at first you don’t succeed; try, try, try again.” – William Edward Hickson

We have seen how the political enemies of President Duterte attacked him through several issues they raised to change the view of the people and possibly use them to fuel their own selfish agenda. We have also witnessed them fail in every attempt to put themselves back in power at the expense of a man whose only concern is to elevate the lives of the Filipino people by doing everything within his power to eliminate illegal drugs, crime and corruption; to the point that he is willing to sacrifice his life and his freedom to achieve it.

However, even with their failure to weaken the current administration, they have not given up on their attempt to condition the minds of the people; they continue to sell themselves as the source of “truth,” as the light side fighting and/or the good fighting against the evil while they also continue to paint a negative image of Duterte.

Now what’s the purpose of all their efforts to paint a negative image of the President? I believe it’s as clear as day that their worst enemy in their struggle to retrieve power is not really the Duterte administration but the Filipino people.

Several of the rallies they organized have significantly failed because Filipinos are wide awake now from their strategies and techniques to use the people just to satisfy their hunger for power. So even if they have failed at first or even their second try, they will continue to try again until they get what they want without taking into consideration what the Filipino people want and what our country needs to prosper.

It seems that years of being in power but doing nothing to bring change for all Filipinos is not enough for them which is why they continue to replicate the issues against President Duterte in order to bring him down.

As most of us have seen in the Senate hearing, the witness – Arthur Lascañas – that was presented with the help of the camp of Senator Antonio Trillanes was nothing more but a duplicate of their first witness, Edgar Matobato.

And just like in the case of Matobato, the Senators found several inconsistencies in his affidavit; Lascañas failed to provide solid evidence to support his statement; his motive in confessing is dubious especially because he says that it’s because of “Spiritual renewal” even if he claims to knowingly lying before the Senate in his previous appearance.

The final straw here, I think, is that when it was revealed by Senator Lacson in the end that the dance instructor he claims to have killed together with Matobato is in fact alive and well. This destroyed the credibility of Lascañas, and a case based on a testimony of an unreliable witness with no supporting evidence cannot be sold to the public as the “truth’ no matter how hard they try or no matter how much they spend to make it look like the truth.

Another one of their efforts to paint a negative image of Duterte has failed, surely they will continue with their propaganda but the thing here is this: a selfish cause will not prevail over the cause that is for the welfare of the entire nation.

If the Senate hearing on the Davao Death Squad and the statement of Lascañas have shown us anything, it’s clearly not that he was telling the truth nor that his story is believable; it showed us who among the Senators are possibly the persons behind the so-called “BIG” revelation of the alleged DDS Leader; it showed us who among the Senators are obviously trying to use the “confession” to sow an intrigue that a death squad is responsible for the “EJK” now that they want to linked to the President.

And lastly, the Senate hearing showed us who among the Senators are doing their duty, not for the sake of the people, but for their own cause which was noticeable when some of them seemingly provided the answer to Lascañas through their way of questioning.

This, then, begs the question if Arthur Lascañas did really “confess” for the sake of the truth and because of “spiritual renewal” or was he given other motivation, like money, to change his tune?
