Palace says Duterte’s health ‘good’ amid rumors of passing out
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday denied text messages saying President Rodrigo Duterte passed out.
The Palace then assured the public that the president is “in good physical and mental health.”
“He (Duterte) is strong and agile and can stand the responsibilities and demands of the presidency,” Presidential Communications Office chief Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement.
On Monday, reports said text messages circulated that Duterte passed out before he was set to attend a meeting at the Palace. Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella quickly denied the news saying no such thing happened.
Duterte was slated to meet with senior Bangladeshi officials at 2:30 p.m. However, Abella said the president will miss the meeting due to pressing matters that demanded his immediate attention.
Early November, Malacañang also said the 71-year-old Duterte is as strong as a carabao despite his statement that all persons his age suffer ailments.
