CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial squad went off to a good start, claiming a gold with three bronze medals in cycling at the start of the 2016 Philippine Youth Games- Batang Pinoy National Finals yesterday in Tagum City, Davao.

Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Moira Frances Gabrielle Erediano produced the first gold for Cebu Province and she became the first gold medalist in this year’s edition of the multing-sporting event.

“This is her first cycling competition and we felt blessed that she won the gold medal. All the hard work paid off,” said Erediano’s father Fritz.

The 12-year-old Erediano won the gold medal in the girls’ 10-13 class of the criterium event with a time of 11 minutes and 40.550 seconds. She was followed by Bukidnon’s Alexie Guinhuran with 13:01.550 as another Cebu Province entry Jeana Mariel Canete wound up third.

Cebu Province also got its bronze medals from Karen Manayon in the 14-15 and 16-17 categories with a time of 14:34.087 and 23.32.083, respectively.

Kim Remolino, for his part, missed the podium yesterday but hopes to bounce back in the individual time trial set tomorrow. Remolino is no longer allowed to join the triathlon and duathlon being a member of the national team.
