MANILA, Philippines - When archrivals Ateneo Blue Eagles and De La Salle Green Archers clash in the UAAP, a sea of blue and green fills the arena. But on Sunday, it might be a different picture.
In a September 30 statement by Ateneo president Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ, he encouraged Ateneo supporters to wear black in solidarity with victims of human rights violations in the country.
"This is particularly in light of the considerable amount of sentiments and convictions already expressed by various sectors of both the Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University communities in opposition to the possible Marcos burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, and the growing number of extrajudicial killings/summarry executions in the country," the statement read.
The statement added that Ateneo supporters are encouraged to wear either black garments (t-shirts, shirts, blouses, jackets, sweaters) or black clothing accessories (arm bands, scarves, bandanas.)
The De La Salle community is also encouraged to carry out the same gesture.
The archivals will face each other for the first time in the season on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay at 4 p.m.
The Green Archers are on top of the standings with a flawless 6-0 record. The Blue Eagles are behind with a 4-2 record.
