Negros Oriental: Outstanding cops, institutions honored

CEBU, Philippines - Seven individuals and five institutions and non-government organizations on Tuesday received distinction and awards for their contributions to the accomplishment of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NORPPO), which was named the best provincial police command in Negros Island Region (Region 18).

The awarding ceremony coincided with the 115th Police Service Anniversary held at NORPPO’s headquarters at Camp Francisco Fernandez in Agan-an, Sibulan, with the theme “Hamon ng Pagbabago, Pinag-ibayong Serbisyo.”

The seven individual awardees were: Superintendent Jovito Atanacio as best senior police commissioned officer (PCO); Senior Inspector Rogelio Pacificar Jr. (best junior PCO); Senior Police Officer 2 Cyrus Orcullo (best senior police non-commissioned officer or PNCO); Lucila Bergado (best non-uniformed police-supervisory level); Reverend Noel Bactol (most supportive spiritual leader); and Wilfredo Aguilar (best member of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team).

The awarded institutions were: Dumaguete City Police Station as best police station, with the award received by Atanacio; Sibulan PS as best municipal police station, received by Senior Inspector Nelson Lamoco; Tanjay City as most supportive local government unit, received by Mayor Reynaldo Concepcion; Visayan Forum as most supportive NGO, received by Dondee Señeris; and Negros Chronicle as most supportive print media, received by its editor-publisher Joselito Emmanuel Dejaresco.

Senior Superintendent Nestor Tiempo, NORPPO’s director, enjoined every policeman to further develop their competence and discipline in the field of public service that made them into a responsive and highly professional police organization.

Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, for his part, lauded the entire NORPPO for keeping Negrenses safe, even with the declaration as conflict manageable and development ready province since 2014. (FREEMAN)
