8 things you can do to make the most out of the cold weather

Alixandra Caole Vila - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – January is about to end, but the cold weather seems to stay. Waking up each morning is getting harder as the cold crisp air makes sleeping even better.

Unfortunately, we have no power to ask the nature to turn up the heat, but there are a lot of interesting and creative things that we can do to make the most out of the cold weather.

Stop complaining and shake off the gloominess. Here are some ways to enjoy the January chill.

Wake up to the aroma of your favorite coffee.

A warm home-made, thick, tenderly sweet cup of coffee will surely get rid of all the bad vibes brought by the cold mornings.

Music makes everything better.

While taking the shower, turn up the feel-good music and sing like nobody even cares. So create your cold-weather playlist and enjoy your hot shower.

Thank heavens for the cold weather!

The scarves you have piled up in your closet will finally be put to use.  Bring out your most excessive and most stylish scarf and own the catwalk to your work.

There is something romantic about gray days.

This is the perfect time to be cozy (and clingy) with your special someone. Ask your beau or belle out and have a candle light dinner. No budget? Stick to the old-custom of preparing dinner at your own place and personalize everything from the dishes to the plates and curtains to make it even more cheesy!

Cold weather is perfect for long drives and long walks.

Since Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, make an advanced date by strolling through the park and breathing the fresh air with your loved one. Go on a picnic date to maximize your time together.

Eat your heart out!

Single? Stop sobbing beneath the sheets! A gloomy heart and a cold stomach is not a great combination. Cook a bowl of your favorite Filipino dish and keep your heart and body warm and healthy. Ask some friends to come over and enjoy your delicious meal with gossip on the side!

Declare a movie and book marathon.

Staying indoors has lost its value because almost everyone is out doing their errands. The cold weather is perfect for your weekend movie marathon. Scrap the malling for a while and take time to relax and indulge on books and movies that would make you feel better.

Cuddle with your blanket.

Lastly, make your blanket your best buddy. Wrap yourself up with a fluffy and thick comforter for a good night sleep. No need to turn on your aircon! Cold weather saves you from having to pay ridiculous amount of electricity bill.
