Power facility set on fire

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan  , Philippines  —  Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels burned a facility of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines in Mountain Province, resulting in a massive blackout in the province and nearby areas on Tuesday night.

Superintendent Jomarick Felina, provincial police spokesman, said an undetermined number of NPA guerrillas stormed the facility at around 10:45 p.m., disarmed security guards  and set on fire the tapping point control room, triggering an explosion.

The rebels fled toward Sitio Madepdepas, Barangay Data in Sabangan town.

Damage to property has yet to be determined.

Felina said the rebels could be from Nueva Vizcaya.

Last week, rebels claimed responsibility for the raid on a construction firm in Sta. Teresita, Cagayan. The rebels also burned  three heavy equipment.
