Village chief, pal gunned down
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A barangay chairman and his companion were shot dead by four unidentified men in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte on Monday.
Philip Malon, 40, of Barangay Mucas, Salug town, and Edgar Vincent Lagare, 27, died at the scene from several gunshot wounds.
Two others, identified as Ava Lagare Vega, 35, and Arl Acas, 25, were wounded in the attack, according to Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office 9.
Malon and his companions were inspecting his commercial establishment in Barangay Baybay at past 5 p.m. when the assailants pulled over on three motorcycles.
The assailants, armed with rifles, fired at the victims.
Malon managed to run but was pursued and shot several times by one of the armed men.
