53 PUJs fined for operating without permits on Sinulog

CEBU, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-7 apprehended 53 public utility jeepneys for operating out-of-line during the Sinulog festivity the other day.

LTFRB-7 Information Officer Emil Membrillas said that the 53 PUJs were issued citation tickets and made to pay a fine of P3,000 each.

Membrillas said that majority of the PUJs that were apprehended are those whose routes are bound for Lapu-Lapu City and the towns of Consolacion and Liloan.

"Kani sila kutob ra gyud unta sila sa may White Gold, pero niabot na sila og operate sa Barangay Tinago," said Membrillas.

The LTFRB-7 Enforcement Team has also apprehended one tourist van for collecting individual fees from its passengers.

"Kung tourist bus gani ang franchise, dapat pakyaw ang bayad ani sa mga pasahero. Ang nahitabo ani kay iyang gipaninglan iyang mga pasahero tagsa-tagsa," said Membrillas.

He added that the driver of the van was made to pay a fine of P6,000.

Earlier, LTFRB-7 has issued special permits allowing 27 multicabs travelling within Lapu-Lapu City to travel up to Plaza Independencia in Cebu City during the Sinulog festivity.

Likewise, it has also issued special permits allowing 75 PUJ members of Cebu Integrated Transport Cooperative to travel from South Road Properties to near Cebu City Hall and vice versa, as well as special permits for eight Autobus and eight Ceres buses to travel to any southern or northern parts of Cebu.
