Barangay captain gunned down

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines – A village chairman was shot dead in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte on Friday night.

Zosimo Corpuz of Barangay Sta. Catalina was on his way home  after attending a lantern parade in Barangay 20 when motorcycle-riding men fired at him, said Chief Inspector Dexter Corpuz, Ilocos Sur police spokesman. Corpuz died at the scene.

Sources said the fatality was a witness to the killing of Steve Barreiro, a columnist for a local newspaper, last year.
