Village watchman gunned down

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines –The chief of watchmen in Barangay Alangilian in Batangas City was gunned down before dawn yesterday.

Carmelo Punzalan, 58, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Batangas Medical Center, said  Senior Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo, Batangas police director.

Probers said the victim was standing near the barangay hall when the assailant approached from behind and shot him at close range at around 4 a.m.

The gunman fled on a motorcycle.
