2 die in Zamboanga hostage-taking incident

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Police shot dead a man who held hostage and killed his wife in Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday.

Eddie Reyes, 35, who was armed with a handgun and a grenade, shot his wife Arlyn when responding police officers led by Inspector Herminigildo Bajao initiated a negotiation, said Superintendent Rogelio Alabata, spokesman for the Zamboanga peninsula police. 

Police Officer 3 Gerald Isidro said Reyes was shot when he attempted to remove the pin of the grenade while holding his three children. 

The children were rescued and turned over to the municipal social welfare office.
