Pangasinan cop shot dead

MANGALDAN, Pangasinan, Philippines – A police officer was shot dead near a public market here on Sunday while responding to a report that an armed man was threatening to kill people around him. 

Superintendent Benjamin Ariola, Mangaldan police chief, identified the victim as Senior Police Officer 2 Ronald Allan Tiu, 43.

Initial reports said pedicab driver Felix Alvarez, 71, shot Tiu when he and PO3 Manuel Landingin IV arrived at the scene.

Tiu was shot in the chest and abdomen and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Medical Centrum in Dagupan City.

Alvarez was killed when he engaged Landingin in a gunfight.
