Teen hangs self over hoax text message

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines  – A 15-year-old girl hanged herself after receiving a text message that her boyfriend had died, which turned out to be a hoax, in Iguig, Cagayan on Sunday.

The girl was found dead in the room of her aunt’s house in Barangay Baculud.

She reportedly locked herself up after reading the message allegedly sent by her boyfriend’s relatives from Batangas, according to case investigator Police Officer 2 Dan August Begenio.

The message stated that the boy died of diarrhea.

Begenio has yet to confirm whether the victim’s parents would press charges against the boy’s relatives.
