MMDA requires CCTVs in infra projects for traffic monitoring

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday called on contractors working on the 15 major infrastructure projects across Metro Manila to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at their respective sites to help in the monitoring of traffic congestion.

MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos said the CCTV cameras installed at the various construction sites will be connected to the MMDA's Metrobase for coordinated monitoring not only of traffic flow, but also of debris and other obstructions that could pose danger to motorists.

Dapat may kooeprasyon tayong lahat,” Carlos said.

Last February 18, the government started the construction of the Skyway 3, a six-lane fully elevated expressway with a length of 14.8 kilometers that will connect the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

Two weeks ago, the phase 2 construction of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport elevated expressway also started and is expected to be completed by 2017.

Other projects in the pipeline and expected to be finished by 2016 are the LRT Line 1 Cavite extension, the Integrated Transport System (Southwest Terminal), Sen. Gil Puyat-Paseo de Roxas underpass, NLEX-SLEX link connector road, España flyover, LRT Line 2 east extension project, the Lawton bridge which will connect the Ortigas business district with the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, and the LRT Line 1 north extension project.
