Joyce Jimenez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — After waiting five years to visit the Philippines, Christina Perri finally fulfilled her and her fans’ wish.

The American singer-songwriter performed in Manila on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as part of her "Head or Heart Tour".

Once the rhythm of the song "Shot Me in the Heart" started, she greeted everyone "Mabuhay!" and started performing.

"We’re so happy to be here tonight," she said. "Thank you for choosing to be with us tonight. My heart is exploding right now. Salamat!"

After several upbeat songs, Christina slowed it down a notch as she performed a duet with her guitarist in the song "Distance."

She then recalled how she wrote the song "Burning Gold," which she said is about chasing one’s dream.

"I wrote it about moving a town so far away to chase my dreams," she recalled. "A lot people can chase their dreams. Don't stop until you reach your dreams."

Christina then showcased her talent in playing the piano when she performed the song "The Words."

"It’s about a moment, very small moment where you've fallen in love with someone but the moment your about to say it is so terrifying because you don't know if they love you too," she said about the song.

As the crowd sings along with her, Christina couldn’t help be feel amazed.

"This is so awesome!" she exclaimed. "This is so magical. I couldn't imagine coming here and be this welcomed. I'll remember this forever."

Some of the other songs she performed are "Butterfly," "Arms," and "Lonely Child." Yet the crowd went wild as she finally performed the "Twilight" hit soundtrack "A Thousand Years."

Since most of her songs are about heartbreaks, it came as a surprise to many the song "Be My Forever" is about couple madly in love with each other. "It's the happiest song I have written all my life," she said.

After a song about love, Christina performed "Human," which she wrote during the time she felt so down.

"I wrote this song about one thing. I was very upset, very stuck. Until all I had to do is to write a song. It was very personal and then I realized that's what I do, to tell you the truth. This song is about self-forgiveness," she said.

She also surprised the crowd when she performed covers of "Sky Full of Stars" by Coldplay and "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran.

Finally, she performed "Jar of Hearts" as a way of saying thank you to all of her fans, admitting that the composition changed her life.

She then ended the night with the song "I Don’t Want to Break," and some kisses for her fans who went to her concert that night.
