Cops in Kian slay get time to submit answers

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Internal Affairs Service (IAS) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has allowed police officers implicated in the killing of Kian Loyd delos Santos more time to submit their position paper on the administrative cases their facing.

IAS inspector general Alfegar Triambulo said the lawyer of the 16 policemen appealed during yesterday’s summary dismissal hearing to give them until Oct. 23 to submit their position paper.

He said the lawyer explained they need more time as they still have to attend Senate investigations into Delos Santos case.

“The hearing officer allowed that the deadline to submit is on Oct. 23,” Triambulo said in an interview over TV5.

It is unclear if all 16 police officers were present during the hearing. Among those who attended are Police Officer 3 Arnel Oares, PO1 Jeremias Pereda and PO1 Jerwin Cruz, accused of having a direct participation in the killing of the 17-year-old on Aug. 16.

Triambulo said they expect to submit a resolution with corresponding recommendations to PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa a week after the respondents submit their position paper.
