MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ricardo Marquez will retire tomorrow.

Marquez will retire from the service two months ahead of his 56th birthday – the mandatory retirement age – to give way to Chief Superintendent Ronald de la Rosa, who was chosen by president-elect Rodrigo Duterte as the next PNP chief.

Three top posts in the PNP will be vacant with the retirement of Marquez.

Deputy Director General Danilo Constantino, PNP deputy chief for operations, retired when he turned 56 years old last week.

The second top post in the PNP – deputy chief for administration – has been vacant since March following the retirement of Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo.

Deputy Director General Francisco Uyami will handle the affairs of the PNP until De la Rosa assumes office on July 1, PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor said.

Uyami, a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Class of 1982 will retire in March 2017.
