PNP chief gets high approval rating

- Greg Javier, [email protected] -

You would think that with the involvement of some cops in wrongdoing and even crime, people would look unkindly at PNP chief Raul M. Bacalzo. But as the results of the latest Pulse Asia survey clearly show, General Bacalzo is among the top five with the highest approval ratings for their performance in office.

He got 39 percent.

What surprised me about the survey results is that PNP chief Bacalzo enjoys a very high performance rating, surpassing even that of his immediate boss, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, and former Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Ricardo David Jr., both with 38 percent.

General Bacalzo enjoys a higher approval rating from the public than Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson (37), Budget Secretary Florencio Abad (37), Presidential Management Staff chief Julia Abad (37 percent), Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima (37), Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo (36), Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Secretary Ricky Carandang (36 percent), Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin (34), Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma (31), and Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez (25).

The PNP chief must be doing well in his job that he has even outscored other key government officials despite his low-key presence in media.
