Payao snares Philippine bantam title
CEBU, Philippines - Jhaleel ‘Cebuano Disaster’ Payao of the Omega Boxing Gym captured the Philippine bantamweight title with a clinical unanimous decision victory over Jason Tinampay in the main event of Omega Pro Sports International’s ‘Rumble sa Masbate’ last Wednesday night in Cawayan, Masbate.
The 23-year-old Payao now holds a 15-1 record spiked with 8KOs, while Tinampay fell to 8-4.
Tinampay, who once fought for the WBO Asia-Pacific Youth super bantamweight belt, was supposed to provide a tough test for Payao but he was completely outboxed by the quicker and more powerful Omega fighter.
Payao, who once held the WBC Youth World super flyweight crown, was the more tactical fighter as he used his sharp jabs and vicious body shots to dictate the pace of the match to earn the nod of all three judges.
In the supporting bouts, Payao’s stablemate Jimboy Haya (10-3, 6KOs) won via unanimous verdict over the previously unbeaten Ken Jordan (4-1, 4KOs) of General Santos City.
In the other results, Rimon Rama scored a first round stopppage of Joash Jordan, South Korean Ming Hong Lee TKOd Wilfredo Ruta, Ponciano Rimandiman outpointed Lenmar Prescillas, Royder Borbon mauled Belmar Plaza, Jay Ar Aliasot battered Eddie Estibat, Oliver Genecera dominated Rolien Getalada, while Tony Tuñacao passed his acid test in the pro ranks with a KO win over Eric Pulgo.
