12 soldiers killed, 5 wounded in Sulu clash
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - At least 12 soldiers were killed and five others were wounded in an encounter yesterday in Patikul town, Sulu.
Reports reaching the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) disclosed the firefight erupted around 4:30 p.m. when troops from the 35th Infantry Battalion encountered the Abu Sayyaf group under Radulan Sahiron.
As of last night, the Westmincom could not immediately give details of the encounter and there was no report if the Abu Sayyaf sustained casualty during the clash.
Security sources, however, disclosed the government casualties was so far the biggest in a battle since President Duterte ordered the military to crush the Abu Sayyaf following the beheading of 18-year-old captive James Patrick Almodovar on Wednesday last week.
Two of the five wounded soldiers were airlifted and brought to a military hospital in this city, reports said.
