PAGASA: Tropical Depression Carina maintains strength
MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Depression Carina maintained its strength on Saturday.
State weather bureau PAGASA made the announcement in its 11 a.m. bulletin.
As of 10 a.m. on Saturday, Carina’s center was located 175 kilometers east northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar, packing maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour. It is expected to move north northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.
Public storm warning signal number 1 is still raised in the following areas:
- Cagayan
- Isabela
- Northern Aurora
- Catanduanes
- Camarines Sur
- Albay
- Sorsogon
- Northern Samar
- Eastern Samar
- Samar
Areas under storm signal are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides and may expect the following:
- Very light or no damage to low risk structures
- Light damage to medium to high risk structures
- Slight damage to several houses made of very light materials or makeshift structures
- Some banana plants may tilt
- Twigs of small trees may be broken
- Rice crops in its flowering stage may suffer significant damage
Fisherfolk are also advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected within the 300-kilometer diameter of the tropical depression. The southwest moonsoon or "hanging habagat" enhanced by Carina will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over MIMAROPA.
