Trillanes denies receiving money from Imee Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — Vice presidential aspirant Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday denied that he received money from Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos after the Oakwood mutiny in 2004.

Former Magdalo group leader Marine Capt. Nicanor Faeldon earlier said in a press conference at The STAR that Marcos brought a box of cash when she visited the Magdalo group while in detention at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP).

"That's a brazen lie. I did not receive a single centavo from Gov. Imee Marcos, and they can ask her about it. This is just a diversion because Mayor Duterte cannot face the P2.4 billion ill-gotten wealth issue," Trillanes said in a statement.

Trillanes added that Faeldon has been expelled from the Magdalo group since 2006 and that he was a disgruntled former member.

"Right now, he is a member of Mayor Duterte's campaign team and is being used to divert the public's attention from the main issue of Duterte's P2.4 billion ill-gotten wealth," the senator said.

The vice presidential aspirant earlier claimed that the bank accounts under the names of Duterte and his daughter Sara Duterte at BPI Julia Vargas and EDSA Greenhills branches and BDO branch in Mandaluyong City recorded deposits amounting to P2.4 billion from 2006 to 2015.

The senator had released documents listing the bank transactions and properties of Duterte and his children Paolo, Sara, and Sebastian.

Duterte, however, had revealed the contents of his bank accounts, disputing the allegations of Trillanes against him.

“What Trillanes was claiming that the P2.4 billion has been in my account ever since, then why the hell wasn’t I investigated by the AMLC (Anti-Money Laundering Council). That is hidden wealth, not only that, Trillanes is now claiming it was drug money and it also came from smuggling," Duterte said in a press conference held at The STAR.
