Leni Robredo surprised by Kris Aquino endorsement

TANDAG CITY, Philippines - Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential candidate and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo said she was surprised by the endorsement of presidential sister Kris Aquino and expressed confidence that the support would boost her candidacy. 

“I did not expect it. Kris Aquino is the number one endorser in the Philippines and then she helped me not just by waiving her talent fee but by funding the entire production of the ad,” Robredo told reporters in a chance interview on Monday.  

“It means a lot to me. Kris is a well-known figure who does not endorse someone she does not believe in,” she added.

When asked if she talked to Aquino about endorsing LP presidential bet Manuel Roxas II, Robredo said: “I do not want to be intrusive. Support is something voluntarily given. But she is supportive to all candidates supported by PNoy (President Aquino)."

Robredo said Aquino herself called her about her plan to support her presidential bid.

“She told me she wants to volunteer in whatever way she can,” the vice presidential bet added.

“I asked her how she would help me. She said she would help me through an endorsement ad,” she added.

Robredo said she was touched by the presidential sister’s action.

“I am thankful to the whole family of our president. They tirelessly helped me and accompanied me in some of my sorties. They told me they are doing it because they remembered their mother in me. President Cory (Aquino) is one of my inspirations in public service,” she said, adding that the remark serves as a challenge to her.
