Miss India is new Miss World, Miss Philippines bags special awards

MANILA, Philippines— India’s Manushi Chhilar was crowned Miss World 2017 on Saturday evening.
The pageant was held in Sanya, China. Miss World 2013 Megan Young hosted the coronation night while international talent manager Arnold Vegafria was one of the judges.
Chhilar won the crown for India after 17 years. This is the country’s sixth title.
Mexico’s Andrea Meza and England’s Stephanie Hill were named Miss World’s 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up, respectively.
Laura Lehmann brings home special awards
The Philippines' bet to the Miss World pageant, 24-year-old Laura Lehmann, failed to advance to the Top 15. Although she made an early exit, Lehmann still bagged special awards.
Lehmann was among the winners of the pageant’s Beauty with a Purpose program which made her a top 40 finalist. Other winners of the Beauty with the Purpose programs were candidates from South Africa, Vietnam, India and Indonesia.
Miss World Philippines Organization General Manager Bessie Besana said proceeds from her win would go to the milk bank of the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
The Filipina beauty also won the Head to Head Challenge.
In a lengthy social media post, Lehmann shared that she is now headed back to the country. She thanked her supporters and coaches and said she is proud of what she attained and for the opportunity to represent the Philippines in an international pageant.
“I know we didn’t get as far as we wanted to here, but I don’t want anyone to be sad, okay?” she said.
