Hello, Hallyu: 3 Korean stars in Manila

Hallyu stars Park Shin Hye (left) and Yohan Hwang (right) are in Manila, while Ricky Kim (center) will be arriving in August.

MANILA, Philippines — Annyeong-haseyo?

Three Korean stars, who are making waves in the Philippines, are now or will be visiting Manila very soon to greet their fans, brightening the gloomy weather with their colorful K-pop songs and shows.

Hye arrived in Manila on a stormy July 27.

Park Shin Hye

Hallyu idol Park Shin Hye arrives in style on July 27 at NAIA Terminal for her July 28 Flower of Angel Fun Meet and Concert presented by Filipino clothing label Bench.

The South Korean actress and singer is best known for her melodramas "Stairway to Heaven" (2003) and "Tree of Heaven" (2006). Considered as one of the most prolific actors of her time, she received recognition for her roles in the TV series "You're Beautiful" (2009), "The Heirs" (2013), "Pinocchio" (2014 to 2015) and "Doctor Crush" (2016).

In 2015, Hye ranked 33rd in Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list. This year, she ranks at 12th.

Yohan Hwang

Korean charmer and “I Love OPM” Grand Touristar Yohan Hwang makes a grand entry to the music industry as he releases his debut album under Star Music with a great mix of Pinoy covers and their Korean versions which will be available in Melon, South Korea’s popular online music store.

The chinito heartthrob, who has made Philippines his home for the last three years, highlights his heartfelt renditions of three Tagalog songs in his self-titled album. He also personally translated the lyrics to Korean language in his renditions he hopes both fellow Koreans and Filipinos will enjoy.

The balladeer’s touching interpretation of “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,” sang originally by Bituin Escalante, is the carrier single of his first album. Its Korean version is entitled “Nayotdamyon.”

The 21-year old singer also includes his covers for Yeng Constantino's "Ikaw” with its Korean version “Noege,” and Regine Velasquez’s “You Made Me Stronger” or “Annyeong” for his much-awaited album. “Noege” was the theme song of the recently aired Koreanovela “Love In The Moonlight” on ABS-CBN.

Apart from OPM hits, the song “Du Sa Rang,” the Korean version of one of KZ Tandingan’s biggest hits “Mahal ko o Mahal Ako,” is also part of the tracklist.

This is a milestone in Star Music’s history as the leading record label taps the music portal Melon for the first time in hope to introduce OPM, translated in Korean, to the South Korean market through Yohan’s songs.

The singer earlier rose to fame when he joined and eventually won ABS-CBN’s original singing competition “I Love OPM” in 2016, and got a Star Music recording contract as part of the prizes he received.

Rox Santos serves as the over-all producer of the “Yohan Hwang” album which will soon be available for downloads in melon.com and other digital stores worldwide (Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, etc.), streaming via Spotify, and purchase in record stores nationwide.

Kim and his family

Ricky Kim

Kim (Richard Lee Neely) is a South Korean actor best known for his strong charism and athleticism as seen in KBS2’s “Let’s Go, Dream Team” and SBS’s “Laws of the Jungle.” One of his last Korean TV projects was the SBS reality show “Oh! My Baby” which follows the lives of celebrities and their children. They appeared on the show from 2014 to 2016.  The show paved way to the popularity of TaeTae Family that lead them to have Fanmeet Event in Singapore (May 2016) and Thailand (January 2017).

After starring in four Korean movies and 12 dramas, Ricky is now spending most of his time in Los Angeles, California, currently filming and producing a Hollywood film, “Heaven’s Quest: A Pilgrims Progress," set to be released in 2018.

During his visit here in Manila, Ricky’s goal is to meet and show appreciation and gratitude to all Filipino fans through a meet and greet on this August.
