Charito Solis as wife of Buddha

REMEMBER WHEN? - The Philippine Star

In the Japanese historical epic Buddha, Charito Solis portrayed the wife of Gautama Buddha, founder of the widespread Asian religion or philosophy which started in the 5th century (BC) in India. Buddha is played by Japanese actor Kojico Hongo.

Buddha was shown in 1963 at the Galaxy Theater, where such super productions as Ten Commandments and South Pacific were also exhibited.

In Technirama/Technicolor, Buddha was hyped: ‘Amid all the ages of the world…amid all the spectacles of the screen…Buddha stands alone!’

Charito starred in another Japanese movie, The Princess and I. —RKC
