Kapuso Kadayawan Festival

Ver Paulino - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – GMA 7’s Regional TV group headed to Davao to celebrate the 31st Kadayawan Festival with back-to-back Kapuso mall shows.

The first mall show took place last Aug. 20 in Gaisano Grand Mall’s Activity Center. Among the Kapuso stars who flew to the Durian Republic were Encantadia stars Glaiza de Castro, Kylie Padilla, Ruru Madrid and Migo Adecer.

First to go on stage were Ruru and Migo who treated the crowd with song numbers titled Perfect and Stitches. Then Kylie followed with her rendition of Paramore’s The Only Exception while Glaiza performed Rihanna’s Diamonds.

Also gracing the event were pop heartthrob James Wright, Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil brand ambassador Donita Rose, officer-in-charge of Regional TV Department Oliver Amoroso and GMA Davao station manager Mariles Gamboa.

Meanwhile, 24 Oras anchor Mike Enriquez and the Encantadia stars joined the colorful Pamulak Float Parade on the major streets of Davao City. Glaiza, Kylie, Ruru and Migo also visited and brought fun and entertainment to the residents of Brgy. 23-C during Kapuso Barangayan.

Mike, who delivered a live coverage of the festival for 24 Oras/GMA News, shared his thoughts on covering the Kadayawan Festival. “Enjoy mag-cover ng events rather than masyadong serious stuff, maiba naman. Each festival has its uniqueness, but here you have a contingent from Surallah, South Cotabato, from Saranggani and other parts of Mindanao, kaya masaya dito. So, you have to find adventure in what you’re doing.”

The following day, Aug. 21, the GMA Regional TV group moved on to their next stop — the Activity Center of Abreeza Mall with the stars of Juan Happy Love Story, Someone To Watch Over Me and Sinungaling Mong Puso.

Fans swooned over Lovi Poe as the Someone To Watch Over Me lead star sang her way to the crowd. Her leading man Tom Rodriguez also demonstrated her singing talent as he performed When You Say Nothing at All and Hinahanap Hanap Kita. They were also joined by Rafael Rosell and Kiko Estrada.

Dennis Trillo and Kim Domingo thanked Dabawenyos for supporting Juan Happy Love Story. “Sa lahat po ng mga sumusubaybay, maraming salamat,” said Dennis. The show is down to its final two weeks.

In an interview prior to the mall show, Tom and Lovi expressed excitement for their upcoming primetime series. “It’s about time to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s. It happens in real life,” Lovi said.

“We have dedicated so much effort to make sure na makabuluhan ang Someone To Watch Over Me, it’s definitely a timely thing dahil hindi lang pala pang matandang sakit ang Alzheimer’s,” added Tom.

Someone To Watch Over Me also stars Max Collins and is set to premiere on Sept. 5 replacing Juan Happy Love Story. Tom is also busy promoting his upcoming GMA 7 weekend show titled #Like with YouTube sensation Balang as co-host. The show is set to premiere on Sept. 3 and will feature viral stories online with a twist.

“The Kapuso Network is excited and proud to bring our GMA artists closer to the people who make their shows successful  and we thank our Kapusong Dabawenyos for giving us a warm welcome every time we are here,” said Oliver.
