Coco Martin needs to be 'in love’ to act well

MANILA, Philippines — Coco Martin reveals one secret for his effective acting: falling in love.

"Honestly, kailangan ma-in love ako sa leading lady ko para makaarte," he said during the "Wansapanataym: Yamishita’s Treasure" press conference on Tuesday.

"Mahirap ipeke ang acting. Kailangan nararamdaman mo siya, kailangan totoo, organic ang pinapakita," he explains. "Sabi ko nga minsan hindi kailangan tumulo ang luha, minsan ... maramdaman mo lang I'm sure mararamdaman nila kung ano ang nararamdaman mo. Kailangan nararamdaman ko ang isang bagay para mai-arte ko."

Coco is paired once again with Julia Montes in the project, which will air on March 22. They have worked together in TV series "Walang Hanggan" and the recently defunct "Ikaw Lamang."

The Kapamilya actor admits that if there will be one actress he would like to be paired with, it'll be Julia.

"Napakalalim na ng pundasyon namin as a team or as a love team, kami ni Julia. Kumbaga parang kung i-overall ko siya, si Julia talaga 'yong 'pag sinabing sino ang naka-love team ko noong araw, Julia Montes," he said.

With the closeness that they've developed over the years, Coco reveals he knows when a guy is attempting to court Julia, even she doesn't tell him. So without directly mentioning it to her, he would remind her not to accept suitors for now.

"Bata pa, e," he replied, laughing, when asked why he discourage Julia to accept suitors.

"Gusto ko i-share sa kanila na minsan lang dumating sa atin 'yong opportunity na ganito. Ilang milyon ang gustong mag-artista at pumusisyon kung nasaan tayo. Sabi ko 'wag sayangin, sabi ko maraming time para sa love life," he explained.

He also adds that they shouldn't forget being their families' breadwinners.

"Tayo 'yong hero ng pamilya natin, e, tayo ang naghahanap-buhay para sa kanila, 'wag natin sayangin ang pagkakataon. Sana habang andito tayo, i-grab nila 'yong opportunity na hanggang sa makakaya natin para makatulong sa pamilya natin," he said.

Meanwhile, Sharon Cuneta has been vocal about wanting to do a project with Coco, which the actor mutually feels.

"Pangarap ko siyang makatrabaho," he said about the Mega star, who recently made a comeback in ABS-CBN, through the show "Your Face Sounds Familiar."

If given a chance, he would like to do a soap opera or a film with Sharon so he could get to know her more.

"Kasi ang sarap sa pakiramdam na ang dami kong natututunan, ang dami nilang sine-share sa akin," he adds.
