MTV goes to the movies

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star

The advent of summer is at hand. And with the rise in temperature comes the announcement of the nominees for the annual MTV Movie Awards. Surely the baddest, quirkiest, most highly-charged awards for motion pictures. Can you name another awardgiving body with categories like Best Scared-As-s**t Performance or a Best Shirtless Performance? But these and more all happen at MTV and I say all because MTV started out as a music channel showing the most edgy, most innovative music videos. So their movie choices are no different.

This year’s nominees are apt choices for the honors with badass chicks, aliens, super and anti-heroes and even washboard abs all gunning for that Popcorn trophy in the most epic of battles for movie awards. And leading the race with seven nominations each are the space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy with that awesome soundtrack music on a cassette tape; the tear-jerking love story The Fault In Our Stars; and that totally grossed-out comedy Neighbors.

Fan voting has started online. So you can now make sure that your favorites will bring home the trophies by voting for them. Simply go to www.MovieAwards.MTV.com site and vote. You can vote only up to April 11 but voting for the Movie of The Year will continue throughout the live telecast of the show, which will be seen here in the Philippines, on April 13 at 8 a.m. That will be over MTV Pinoy, of course.
