CEBU, Philippines — Buoyed by its ardent desire to find new talents in the athletic field, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-Visayas will be giving away free slots to those who want to be part of their training pool during the Sinulog Fun Run 2018 on January 7 next year at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The Sinulog Fun Run, which features the 3K, 5K and 10K distances, will have a special category for the aspiring athletes aged 22 years old and below.

“The Sinulog Fun Run will kick start our Visayas Open Tournament, which is our talent identification program,” said Nonie Lopez of PSC-7. "Our goal is to find the next Mary Joy Tabal in the Visayas and we should start to develop them at an early age.”

Lopez said they will be selecting the top 20 runners from three age divisions or a total of 60 runners in the Cebu leg alone. These aspiring runners will be trained under decorated Cebuano running coach John Philip Duenas.

"A total of 60 kids from Cebu will be under the Visayas pool for marathon. All of them will be competing in the second leg of the Visayas Open in Iloilo City in August with all-expense paid by PSC," added Lopez.

Interested runners can enlist at the PSC office at the Cebu City Sports Center. They are required to present NSO or PSA documents upon registration.

For the open category, entry fee is pegged at P350 for 3K, P450 for 5K and P500 for 10K inclusive of a singlet, race bib and post-race refreshments.

Cash prizes and medals will be given away to the top finishers in each category.

Proceeds of the event run will go to the Sinulog Foundation. (BANAT NEWS)
