CEBU, Philippines — Fitness and dancing enthusiasts alike will have a chance to showcase their skills in the first dance fitness competition organized by the Cebu City Government on November 25 at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

Dubbed as the “1st Shape Your Body Dance Fitness Challenge”, the event is open to all women aged 25 years old and above.

“This is the first time that we will organize this kind of competition. We want to promote fitness and healthy lifestyle, most especially to the women. We want to give them an opportunity to showcase their talent through this event,” said Cebu City councilor Jerry Guardo.“We want this to be an annual event so the challenge for us now is to make the launching a success."

The organizers will dangle a huge amount of cash prize for the top peforming teams. Aside from trophies, the champion will also receive P50,000, while the second and third placers will pocket the P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.

Aside from giving their all-out performance, the participants must also observe the following criteria: the presentation should not include any acrobatic stunts, no props, members must be all women only, dancers must not be professionals, and dance instructors are strictly prohibited to join during the presentation.

Moreover, each group must be composed of 15 to 25 members and the performance is limited to five minutes maximum.

The organizers are expecting at least 16 group participants. Four groups have already confirmed their entry and they are hopeful to attract more groups from different companies and barangays.

The charity event is for the benefit of the victims of abused with cases from violence against women and children (VAW) under the wings of Cebu City Women and Family Affairs Commission. It is also in support of the 'Breast Cancer Awareness' month.

For further details, interested parties may contact Jacquelyne Abellar at 0933-5998483. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Entry fee is pegged at P500 for each member per group inclusive of one singlet per member, snacks, and refreshments with freebies from sponsors. The screening of participants is set for Nov. 15. (FREEMAN)
