Cebu Amateur Boxing Revival resumes

CEBU, Philippines - Exciting action in the Cebu Amateur Boxing Revival resumes today with 12 bouts on tap at Plaza Sugbu grounds. Show time starts at 6 pm.

The 'A' Gym fields in the most number entries in the second installment of the twice-a-month slugfest with seven.

They are Jay-R Velasquez, Prince Genesis, Jemmuel Asocena, John Nino Vega, Dominique Casanares, Alex Santesima, and Patrick Gantuangco.

Velasquez will take on Clinton Martinez of the Mandaue City-based Phil-Aust Gym in the 36 kgs.  category of the kids/novice division, while Genesis and Asocena will tackle Louie Jay Tumale of Labogon Boxing Club in the 35.5 kgs. and Norman Rosiana of the Cebu City Sports Center in the 51 kgs., respectively, under the school boys/developmental division.

Vega is pitted against Eduardo Jimenex of CCSC (46 kgs.), Casanares vs Bryan Remedio of UV Boxing Team (49 kgs.), Santesima vs William de la Cruz of CSCC (55.5 kgs.), and Gantuangco vs Vicente  Seos-e Jr. of UV Boxing Team (56 kgs.) in the juniors/experienced division.

The rest of the card features Henderson Hortelano of Carmen Boxing Club vs Wyn Cabradilla of Talisay BC (26 kgs.), Sebastian Agojar of Phil-Aust vs Roderick Hetalada of Carmen BC (28 kgs.), Jefferson Trazo of Talisay BC vs Mark Anthony Chavez of CSCC (30 kgs.), Jayron Cole of Phil-Aust vs Joven Belotindos of Labogon BC (36.5 kgs.), and Marjun Bato of Carmen BC vs John de la Cerna of Wakee BC.

The tournament spearheaded by ABAP-Central Visayas Board of Trustee Lorenzo 'Chao' Sy in cooperation with Philippine Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez and Hall of Fame sportsman Antonio 'Bidoy' L. Aldeguer aims to resuscitate the 'dying' state of Cebu amateur boxing.

 Its ultimate goal is to help find talents and develop them to become members of the national team with hopes of ending the Philippines' elusive quest for an Olympic gold medal in the future. (FREEMAN)
