Vantage FC vs Rising Sun in finals of San Roque bootfest

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Vantage FC and Rising Sun terminated separate foes to set up a championship showdown in the 2nd San Roque Cup 11-a-side football tournament at the San Roque Parish field in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Vantage FC had to go through extra time before booting out San Jose Nawanao, 3-1.

San Jose Nawanao actually scored first courtesy of Robert Mamac at the 61st but Madi Nji hit the equalizer for Vantage FC at the 80th resulting into a 1-1 deadlock at the end of the regulation period.

It was an all-Vantage show in the extra period, with Rafi Llorente and Rene Sanchez delivering the winning goals.

The Rising Sun, on the other hand, edged Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu via a 4-3 cliffhanger.

Allen Antigua and Taizan Markimoto fired back-to-back goals within the first eight minutes of play to power the Rising Sun to an early 2-0 lead.

SHS-AdC retaliated with two goals in succession behind the efforts of Sean Go at the 16th and Leo Maquiling at the 33rd.

The standoff, however, was shortlived after Hayati Fukui found the back ot the net at the 36th and Antigua followed suit at the 51st to restore a 4-2 lead by the Rising Sun.

The Ateneans could only pull within a hairline on Maquiling's goal at the 66th as they ran out of gas towards the end of the match. (FREEMAN)
