Sorongon dominates Centcom Party Run

CEBU, Philippines - After failing to finish the recent National Milo Marathon last week in Iloilo City, veteran long-distance runner Ruffa Sorongon showed that she has finally recovered after winning the 10K women’s title of the 1st Centcom Colorful Night Party Run the other night at Camp Lapu-Lapu in Barangay Apas, this city.

Sorongon reached the finish line in 44 minutes and 38 seconds, followed by Lovely Andrin at second in 45:38 as Geneda Arcuino wound up third in 46:53.

Kenyan runners in Eric Chipsiror and Joseph Mururi had a 1-2 finish in the men’s side. Chipsiror grabbed the first place in 33:42, while the latter registered a time of 34:43. Michael Largo settled for third place in 38:48.

In the men’s 5K, Arnel Florentino touched down in the finish line with the fastest time of 17 minutes and 11 seconds, one second ahead of Ariel Saballa. Kenyan James Mibei landed at third spot with a time of 17:53.

Cherry Andrin, for her part, reigned supreme in the 5K women’s with a time of 21:09, followed by Geniecel Saballa and Moira Erediano at second and third place with a time of 22:06 and 23:48, respectively.

John Cliff Debulusan topped the 3K men’s with 10:08 clocking, while Ruel Algufera placed second in 10:37 as Jouie Bajan claimed the third place in 11:26.

Michelle Beboso (13:48), Jessel Ochia (14:20) and Angelyn Potot (14:28) were the top three finishers in the women’s class. (FREEMAN)
