USJ-R remains unbeaten in CESAFI beach volley

CEBU, Philippines - The defending champion University of the San Jose-Recoletos kept its record unblemished in straight sets over Cebu Institute of Technology University in the men’s division of the 2016 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. beach volleyball tournament at the Southwestern University sand court yesterday.

The tandem of Kent Verbosidad and Alastair Gairanod were unstoppable as they handed CIT-U a 21-11, 21-15 defeat.

This is CIT-U’s second loss after bowing to host team Southwestern University, 13-21, 16-21.

Meanwhile, USJ-R’s junior squad scored a back-to-back win starting with Don Bosco Technology Center whom they beat, 21-16, 21-11, followed by a more dominating 21-5, 21-6 victory over Cebu Eastern College.

University of Cebu though halted USJ-R’s streak after a 21-17, 17-21, 15-3 win.

Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu also registered two consecutive wins at the expense of DBTC and CEC.  In the girls class, UC upended SHS-AdC, 21-11, 21-12, while University of Southern Philippines Foundation outsmarted USJ-R, 13-21, 23-21, 15-13. (FREEMAN)
