SWU’s Mike Reyes to coach East

CEBU, Philippines - After all, it's going to be Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras assistant coach Mike Reyes who will be calling the shots for the East side in this Sunday's 16th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. All-Star Game at the Cebu Coliseum.

Initially, lawyer Kenneth Kernn Sesante was tapped by CESAFI commissioner Felix 'Boy" Tiukinhoy, Jr. to coach the East but of the University of Cebu Webmasters tactician begged off as he still on a personal trip in Australia.

This prompted Tiukinhoy to replace Sesante with Rommel Rasmo of defending champion the University of San Carlos Warriors. Ramos, however, politely declined the request as he is already set for an out-of-town vacation with his family this weekend.

Tiukinhoy then turned to SWU-Phinma head coach Raul "Yayoy" D. Alcoseba but the latter couldn't also make it as he will be in Davao to attend a friend's wedding.

Eventually though, Reyes has accepted the assignment in Alcoseba's stead. He will be up against the West All-Stars under the tutelage of Albert Alocillo of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers.

Meanwhile, a total of 15 sharpshooters will take part in the 3-point shootut, which is among the side events of the league's annual spectacle pitting the East versus the West.

They are Shaquilie Imperial and Mark Jayven Tallo of SWU, Jayvie Mantilla and Ralph Dinolan of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, Kevin Oleodo and Condrad Catapusan of USC, Josue Segumpan, Tristan Albina and Jerome Napao of the University of the Visayas Green Lancers, Roy Quiachon and Wisdom Ceniza of USPF, Garciano Puerto and Justine Daclos of UC and Steven Bucao and Marlo Pono of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats.

UC's Puerto will also be vying for the 'Slam Dunk' title alongside Juan Miguel Gastador of USJ-R and Rodelio Cauba of USPF. (FREEMAN)
